8. Write an autobiographical entry on your relationship with the media. (what and why you consume- what you like and dislike in the media etc.)

Media is like a transformer of knowledge for me. Media’s components are multiply and develop day by day and the information which people brought from it dramatically increase with this transition. As a student, I mostly use internet in order to provide information for my researches for articles and also become aware of our country’s political and daily events however my parents mostly read newspapers because of their generation to find out about the news. With the rise of the Technological Era, humans became big fans of the television and the TV created a suitable place in the species of media for itself. I am also a big fan of television from my childhood. I always spent really long time to watch cartoons including Looney Tunes, Spiderman and Pokémon. Actually I still spend lots of time in order to watch cartoons but in these days I do not just watch cartoons but also several television series. To be honest, I am not a conscious media follower because I gave shape my relationship with the media under the sway of my own interests.

5. Behind the screens- giving specific examples of the films that you watch- How have films become commercialised and why does this matter?

Commercialism is a way to present the product and it has spread into almost every aspect of daily life. In these days making films is practically similar to making commercials. The movie makers made commercials of specific products in exchange of money or the valuable objects for their job. The producer’s purpose is generally generating profit from their production however for viewers it is not seen as a profit but a waste of time. In films the commercialism is mostly made with product placement which is a type of advertising. The way of product placement is deceptive and some people do not realize them at all. For example, in the movie called I, Robot the mark of Converse was really effective in order to influence people and make them ambitious about buying shoes. In the Truman Show, it is possible to see lots of product placement examples that are made in a sarcastic way. With this sarcasm, the audience becomes much more aware of the beguiling way of commercialism in films. Watching movies should be more entertaining and educating whereas films commercialized in order to increase producer’s profit. People get bored with watching long length advertisements and also it does not redound anything necessary for them.

The Pursuit of Happiness

I would like to talk about the film called The Pursuit of Happiness and the family structure in it. The Pursuit of Happiness was directed by Gabriele Muccino and it’s based on Chris Gardner’s biograpy. First of all, i want to give information about the family. In the film, there is a divorced couple and their cause of divorcing is destitution . The mother character is really disregardful but her attitudes are came from the fact that she is poor , she needs to work much hours and also she needs to catch up life in these confusion and difficulties. She left her husband because she loses her belief in her husband. Espicially after he loses the job that she wants, actually he takes the job he always dreamed about at the end of the movie, quarrels among them arises. Besides she does not respect the job her husband wants. However, the father has the same lack of sufficient qualifications but he specify his son the priority of his life. He makes lots of sacrifices for his son and also told him something like “Follow your dreams, do not allow anyone to tell you what to do even if he is your father.” With these sencentes we can understand how much he care and support his son.

Tiny, smiling daddy

I think this story is basicly based on the character called “Stew”. He actually has a collision of ideas within himself but tries to burden his daughter with his conflicts. For instance, when he recieved a phone call from his friend Norm informing him that his daughter had written an article about him in Self magazine, first he tought that the article is about how wonderful he was. Due to this beautiful thought, the author took us to his happy memories. Then, the author started to talk about the complicated thoughts and suspects of Stew and took readers to the bad memories that they experienced. According to these examples, we read the story in the way of Stew’s point of view by the writer.

People choose various of ways including studying hard, working for hours, copying or stealing someone else’s work to reach their goals. Plagiarism is a one the way of convenience that makes human’s aims more accessible and possible. Besides, plagiarism is not only illegal under copyright legislation as music piracy, but also becomes an injustice for other people again as music piracy and they are spreading due to unawareness of people.

Downloading music files from internet or saving bands from radio stations is absolutely mentioned as theft in terms of constitution. Because of the copyright legislation, people cannot use the melody of a song for their own works. In addition to this, people cannot use another writer’s sentences by changing their verbs to compose their essays or compositions because this is plagiarism. Although all the legislations and crimes, plagiarism is widespreading day by day due to the thought of people that they cannot get cought. Plagiarism is not only cheating, it is also being unfair to other people by deceiving them. Hence, the way of using other’s rights is behind the boundries of honesty as well as music piracy.

Most of the people are unconscious about the arangements about copyrights or do not care about the laws. Especially file sharing is very popular in the modern world. According to Charles W. Moore young adults are the most careless part of music downloaders and sharers. Also the main part of users of plagiarism becomes from people who are not use writing for trade. Because of the necessity of being original, creativity is ignored by people and made insensiblity.
In conclution, the similarities of plagiarism and music piracy are having copyright legislation, being unfair to other people and spreading away. There are lots of available technics that make possibble to reach individual’s goals but the most common ways are plagiarism and music piracy and due to ignorantness they become more popular.
